The Materials Research Society (MRS) is a growing, vibrant, member- driven organization focused on broadening the impact of materials science and improving the quality of life. MRS members, which number nearly 16,000, are research professionals from industry, academia and government from around the world and they choose MRS because it is important to their work and careers. MRS Operating Committees form the operational heart of the Society and are made up of energized volunteers who wish to help drive forward specific aspects of the Society. MRS has taken a leadership role in the dissemination of information on materials science and technology to the public and to governments.
MRS supports Strange Matter, an interactive traveling exhibit with over a dozen hands-on experiences and an interactive website with supplemental materials. Strange Matter is Entering its 10th year of touring, with just under 3 million visitors to date at 40 science centers throughout North America. Total number of general public served by exhibition, unique visitors to Strange Matter website, and downloads of teacher guide, family guide and Demoworks publication is 9 million. The Materials Research Society (MRS) plays a major role in the Nanoscale Informal Science Education (NISE) Network, linking scientists interested in public outreach with informal science education projects, offering authoritative scientific information, and providing meeting venues for NISE Network.
