The Manufacturing Institute is a Washington, DC-based organization dedicated to improving and expanding manufacturing in the United States. The Institute is the authority for U.S. manufacturing on the attraction, qualification, and development of world-class talent. The Manufacturing Institute is the 501(c)3, non-partisan affiliate of the National Association of Manufacturers. The Institute is the leading research, education, workforce, and services group supporting U.S. manufacturers.
In response to the high demand for talented individuals with a high-quality education and advanced skills, the Manufacturing Institute created the NAM-Endorsed Manufacturing Skills Certification System to directly address the deficits in manufacturing education and training, which are limiting the pool of qualified candidates for high-quality manufacturing jobs. By issuing 84.738 industry-based certifications in 2011 the Manufacturing Institute is moving quickly toward reaching its goal of 500,000 certifications by 2016.
