Introduce A Girl To Engineering Today!

Today is the 11th annual Introduce A Girl To Engineering Day! While today is the official date of celebration, events are hosted year-round by various corporations, organizations, clubs, universities, schools, and museums. This Day is symbolic of the wide array of events that encourage girls to consider engineering both as a field of study and a career.

Today, and continuing on through the year, businesses like Boeing, Northrop Grumman, and Raytheon will open their doors to girls in the community for tours, information sessions, hands-on activities, and other activities to stimulate interest in engineering. Many corporations will visit local schools and clubs in an effort to reach out to young girls who may be interested in engineering and to introduce them to the range of engineering careers.

Local organizations, clubs, and schools will also be hosting events for teachers, parents and students in their communities. By exposing girls to different opportunities in engineering, new mentors, and strengthening ties with existing ones, Girls Day allows girls K-12 to expand their horizons and experience a new side of engineering that will hopefully catch their interest! Some examples of these initiatives are Girl Scout engineering explorations, University summer camps, school engineering fairs, and hands-on events at science museums.

Introduce A Girl To Engineering Day is part of National Engineers Week, which is in its 61st year of celebration at universities, businesses, and local organizations. Those looking for local events can find the full list of planned events on their website, but all are encouraged not only to sign the Pledge Roster, request a kit, and to create and register their own local events and initiatives!
